Ellijay is the historic county seat of Gilmer County, Georgia which was cut from Cherokee County in 1832, and became the county seat in 1834.  There are always exciting things to do in here in Ellijay, from Local Wineries, Shopping in our Historic Downtown area or enjoying Great Local Food, Sprawling Apple Orchards, Hiking, Biking and much, much more.


Ellijay was rated #2 in the 2018 Readers Digest Nicest Place to live contest. Apples, Apples and more Apples

You can not talk about Ellijay and not mention the word  "Apples".  Ellijay is the Apple Capital of Georgia, we are home to the Apple Festival which plays host to over 300 of the most unique vendors that you will ever find.  The Apple Festival is held the second and third weekend every year in October.  In addition to the Apple Festival, we have some of the most beautiful apple orchards that you will ever lay eyes on.


Outdoor Fun

Fans of the outdoors travel far and wide to come to Ellijay for many different reasons.  Ellijay is the Mountain Bike Capital of Georgia with over 50 trails and endless miles of fun.  We are also the start of the Appalachian Trail the longest hiking only path in the world, measuring 2,190 miles long.  If you after fun in the water we have that too, from our amazing river acess to the breath taking views of Carters Lake Ellijay has a lot to offer.
